Shadowlands

Finding inspiration in the quietening as night approaches or the nuanced shades of dawn, my paintings are echoes of the landscape reduced to shadow and light.

My process begins while exploring the land, absorbing the atmosphere of a place and observing the emotions that emerge. It is this direct connection to nature that creates a relationship between my source of inspiration and the easel. Upon returning to the studio, my paintings originate as an exploration of the horizon and the interplay between the earth and sky. Many layers of oil paint, often void of visible brushstrokes, are built up to create atmospheric landscapes which focus on the energy of a place and offer a sense of solitude and contemplation.
