If you are interested in seeing my workspace at the Art House and my paintings in person, I will be opening my studio during Wakefield Open Studios. It will be open 11am to 4pm on Saturday August 3rd as part of the Index Festival.
Index is a new visual arts festival for Leeds and Wakefield. The programme takes place this summer during Yorkshire Sculpture International and helps you navigate the diverse art and culture that our two cities have to offer.
The ambitious festival, supported by Arts Council England, Leeds Inspired, and Wakefield Council, amongst others, celebrates and showcases the visual art being produced locally by individual practitioners, communities, and artist-led groups. Index’s programme, which is free and open to all, will boast a range of exhibitions, screenings, performances, events, installations, publications and commissions. As part of the festival artists, makers, and creators of Wakefield throw open their studio doors to the public.
Free, family friendly, and open to all, Wakefield Open Studios is a perfect opportunity to explore the creative process. Participating studios include The Art House, Westgate Studios, plus a host of individual artists’ studios in back bedrooms, garden sheds and more!
This will be the perfect opportunity to be one of the first to see my latest series of work which I have been working on throughout the first half of the year. The ambivalent forces of nature are a running theme in this work. Nature is often associated with peace, calm and beauty, but nature also has a wild side which is cold, dark and dangerous. It is these wild places where one can retreat from civilization, reconnect with the Earth, and find healing, meaning and the significance that I’m exploring in these paintings.
It would be great if you could make it, I’ll be in studio 12 wielding my paint brush so pop in and say hello!
