Coastal Elements

I’ve recently begun experimenting and producing a new body of work. The working title of this series of paintings is “Coastal Elements” and was sparked by a recent trip to Flamborough on the Yorkshire coast. On this particular trip, I was struck by how the different elements of a seascape – the land, sea, and sky are all so very distinct and separate yet work together to provide a cohesive vista.

With this in mind, I began working on a few ideas which have developed into the start of a series of paintings. These are much looser than my previous work and are made up of many, many layers. I have treated each of the components that make up the scene separately then united them in the final stages of the painting process. Hopefully creating a painting which binds them together as happens in the natural world.

Here are the first paintings in the series.
